Message from the Mayor - COVID-19

I have been asked recently by a resident if the Council will be shut down by the COVID19 virus.  I’d like to take this opportunity to inform the public that at the present time Council business and services are operating as normal.

However, management plans for staff rostering and Council services have been developed to ensure that Council will continue to operate if a confirmed case of COVID19 is announced in the Murrumbidgee Local Health District. At the time of writing there has been one confirmed case at a location on the Victorian border.

We can all play our part in slowing the virus by adhering to the Department of Health’s advice including washing your hands with soap, staying home if you are unwell or have come into contact with a confirmed case of COVID19, sneeze and cough into a flexed elbow or a tissue (discard after) and using hand sanitiser. Reducing contact between people is critical to reducing the spread and impact of the virus, please be socially aware of your surrounds.

It is especially important to be aware of the need to apply the above basic hygiene practices when visiting the elderly or those who are at risk especially when returning from travelling to nearby larger centres.

Now more than ever we need to not only support our local businesses but support each other, please be understanding if limits are placed on the purchasing of some goods. We will continue to closely monitor the situation and update the community with any changes to Council’s operations.
