Aglal bloom alerts for Toonumbar Dam and Clarence River at Tabulam

WaterNSW has issued the following algal bloom alerts today (14 February) for the Clarence River at Tabulam and Toonumbar Dam.

The Clarence River at Tabulam remains at Amber Alert after sampling last week. Some unknown Aphanizomenonaceae, Microcystis and Phormidium are all present. Stock and domestic users are advised to apply caution and avoid extraction of, or stock watering, from areas where scums or other signs of blue-green algae are present. Sampling will occur again next week.

Cyanophyte levels have increased again for Toonumbar Dam which remains at Red Alert. Chrysosporum ovalisporum is still dominating with lower levels of R. Raciborskii also in the system. Warning signs are in place at all dam access points and at Kyogle. The main boat ramp and nearby camping areas remain closed.

The Toonumbar Downstream site remains at Green Alert with reduced levels of Cyanobacteria. Stock and domestic users in the area are still advised to apply caution and continue to inspect water supplies and pump areas in the river.
