WENDY TUCKERMAN: Small museum grant for Yass Museum

Member for Goulburn Wendy Tuckerman and Minister for the Arts Don Harwin have announced funding for two museums in Yass and Goulburn, delivering improvements and projects for volunteer-run museums across the State.

Yass Museum and Riversdale Goulburn will receive funding through the Volunteer Museum Small Grants Program and Volunteer Museum Project Development fund, administered by Museums & Galleries of NSW on behalf of Create NSW.

Yass Museum will receive $5,975 to engage a locally-based consultant, eleventwelve pty ltd, to prepare a strategic plan for the Yass and District Historical Society Inc

Riversdale Goulburn will receive $4,244 towards the celebration of The National Trust 75th Anniversary with a program of special events. These events will include a curated exhibition at Riversdale, coinciding with the 200th Anniversary commemorations of the establishment of Goulburn Plains, with objects, items from the Trust's collection, loans and facsimiles displayed for the first time.

Mrs Tuckerman said that the funding was essential to enable local museums to review their offering and bring much-needed improvements to everyday operations.

“Funding like this gives our local cultural venues the chance to make improvements that would otherwise be very difficult. It’s important to give these venues every chance to succeed in making the small improvements that can have big impacts on the experience for its visitors and volunteers.”

NSW Minister for the Arts Don Harwin said that the funding helps small to medium galleries, museums and Aboriginal Keeping Places maximise their impact and create strong and thriving communities.

“Whether it’s improvements, new projects or the chance to take stock and plan for the future, it is vital we support our volunteer-led venues.

“The NSW Government is playing its part through this funding and help our venues bring about even minor upgrades that will ultimately benefit local communities and visitors well into the future,” said Mr Harwin. Eighteen community museums from regional NSW and Western Sydney will benefit from investment totalling over $50,000."
