Summer holidays, summer reading challenge

23 December 2019

The chance to win an iPad will keep children and teens reading this summer with the Bega Valley Shire Library’s Summer Reading Club.

“This year, we’ve got a new challenge – to read 40 books in 40 days!” said Megan Jordan-Jones, Acting Library Coordinator.

“Don’t worry if 40 books seem daunting, you only need to read five books to be eligible for an entry into the prize draw to win the iPad,” she said.

It’s important that young people keep developing their reading skills over the school holidays and the Summer Reading Club will keep children keen to read with weekly prize draws giving lots of opportunities to win prizes and gift vouchers, generously donated by local businesses including Betta Electrical Bega who have donated the iPad.

Submit your reading log of five books online or in person to receive a small gift bag of goodies. Every five books children read will give them one entry into the major prize draw on Friday 21 February 2020.

It’s easy to take part in the Summer Reading Club. Join Bega Valley Shire Library if you are not already a member, then register for the reading club at any of our libraries at Bermagui, Bega, Eden and Tura Marrang or online. Registrations open on Friday 3 January 2020.

The library is free to join, and it only takes a few minutes in person or online to sign up.

Libraries will also offer a range of holiday activities throughout January including recyclable craft activities for school age children. To find out what’s on, call in to your nearest library and ask for a school holiday schedule, check the library’s Facebook page or go to the library’s Eventbrite page.

The Summer Reading Club is a free online and in-library holiday program, delivered nationally and run in partnership with the State Library of Queensland, the Australian Library and Information Association and the Australian Public Library Alliance.
