Liverpool is joining the global community in celebrating the International Day of People with Disability on Tuesday 3 December.

The International Day of People with Disability is about increasing public awareness, understanding and acceptance of people with disability and celebrating their achievements and contributions.

Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre is collaborating with Liverpool City Council and Civic Disability Services to hold a fun-filled day at the arts centre that will include:

An arts market (selling the works of artists living with disability);Performances;Mosaic workshops;Virtual Reality experiences; andGarden tours.

Arts teacher Dominique Hindmarsh is facilitating the mosaic workshops at the event.

“Anyone can participate in the workshops to learn how to make the perfect handmade Christmas gift – a coaster with glittering tiles and magical colours,” Dominique said.

Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller has congratulated Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre and Civic Disability Services for their efforts.

“Equal access and participation in artistic and cultural life is recognised in international law as a human right, no matter what your background or level of ability is,” Mayor Waller said.

“By making Liverpool more inclusive, we are also making our city stronger, fairer and a better place in which to live, work and learn.”

Celebrations will run from 11:00am to 2:00pm at Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre and entry is free.
