My thoughts go out to the family and friends who have lost loved ones in the bushfires raging across NSW and Queensland.

A contingent of local firefighters have headed north to help out. I wish you the best of luck.

Another excellent Michelago Spring Fair has been held with many Snowy Monaro residents and Canberrans enjoying the rural displays, stalls and entertainment on offer.

The fair is organised by the hardworking Michelago Region Community Association and the Michelago Rural Fire Brigade. Well done to all involved.

Our Snowy Monaro Regional Library team is encouraging people with overdue library items to donate non-perishable food items and in return, have their library fines waived.

The donations will be passed onto the Cooma Salvation Army and Cooma St Vincent de Paul Society who will use the items in their Christmas hampers. The hampers will be distributed to those in need of a helping hand this Christmas.

The Bombala Library, Cooma Library and Snowy Mountains Neighbourhood Centre will accept donations until Saturday 7 December.

Council is accepting applications for the latest round of the donations and sponsorship program.

Applications will be accepted until 5pm Friday 22 November. Application forms are available at all Council offices and on Council's website.

National Recycling Week is upon us and to help residents improve their recycling techniques, Council's Resource and Waste Education Offices have been holding pop-up information stalls across the region. Stalls have already been held at the Michelago Spring Fair and in Jindabyne’s Nuggets Crossing.

If you’re in Bombala on Monday 18 November, drop by and say hello to the education officers who will be out the front of the IGA, on Maybe Street, between 10am – 3pm.

On Monday, at the eleventh hour on the eleventh day, we paused to remember the sacrifices of the men and women who have served our nation in all wars and conflicts. We remember those who never made it home and thank them for their service. We will always remember. Lest we forget.

Councillor Peter Beer Mayor of Snowy Monaro Regional Council
