Successful weekend hosting NSW Tidy Town Awards

Cessnock City Council hosted more than 150 visitors over the weekend for the Keep Australia Beautiful NSW (KABNSW) 2019 Sustainable Communities - Tidy Town Awards.

The awards recognise accomplishments of regional councils and their communities actively working towards sustainable practices across NSW.

The weekend kicked off with a welcome BBQ on Friday night at the Cessnock Men’s Shed which included a Welcome to Country by Aunty Cynthia. On Saturday visitors had the opportunity to experience all we have to offer enjoying local tours. Highlights of the tours included a visit to wine country, historic Wollombi and the Kurri Kurri Murals. The event culminated with the awards presentation at Pokolbin Hall on Saturday night where Murrurundi was named the KABNSW 2019 Overall Tidy Town Award.

Cessnock City Mayor, Councillor Bob Pynsent congratulated Murrurundi on their achievement.

“In 2018 we were named the NSW Tidiest Town, this was a result of not only Council initiated projects but also because of our fantastic community projects. It’s wonderful to see the Murrururndi community working closely together despite the tough times they are enduring. It’s a reminder of how getting community involved and engaged makes for successful community outcomes.”
