Eco-friendly schools gain grant funding

Cessnock City Council has proudly supported 13 environmentally-friendly school projects through its Schools Environment Grant funding program, totalling $4,618.  

This grant funding program is open to local schools each year and is a wonderful way to support student projects aimed at enhancing and protecting our local environment.  

This year, grant recipients included Honey Tree Preschool, Bellbird Public School, Cessnock Multipurpose Children’s Centre, Cessnock Kids Preschool and Early Learning Centre, Branxton Preschool, Bees Nees Early Learning, Abermain Public School, Ellalong Public School, Holy Spirit Primary Kurri Kurri, Nulkaba Public School and Cessnock High School.  

Each of these schools put forward fantastic environmental initiatives including recycling programs, creating edible/bush tucker gardens, purchasing a native stingless beehive and mindfulness plaques to encourage students to respect their natural environment.  

Cessnock City Mayor, Councillor Bob Pynsent said this was a wonderful program and he looks forward to seeing these projects come to life in our local schools.  

“Protecting our local environment is so important and it is fantastic to see both staff and students at our local schools being so proactive.”  

“We are proud to offer this grant program to our schools each year and encourage those who haven’t applied before, to think of a project and get your applications in next time around,” added Cr Pynsent.
