More than 1,000 at bush fire info meeting

An estimated 1,300 people filled the Mullumbimby Memorial Hall today to be briefed by the Rural Fires Service and the Police ahead of the severe bush fire warnings predicted for tomorrow.

The message for people was to be prepared and evacuate early.  Do not leave it until the last minute and keep up-to-date with information.

People should:

Emergency evacuation centres have been set up at the Mullumbimby Ex-Services Club and the Cavanbah Centre on Ewingsdale Road.  These centres became operational at 2pm today.

If you are going to attend an evacuation centre, register via the Red Cross Register. Find. Unite website before you arrive.

People needing help with companion animals should contact the Mullumbimby and District Neighbourhood Centre on 6684 1286 or they can be taken to the Cavanbah Centre..

Some schools will be closed tomorrow.  People should check with their local schools or details can be found at https://education.nsw.gov.au/news/announcements/list-of-schools-temporarily-closed-due-to-fires.

Food donations are being coordinated by the Mullumbimby Ex-Services Club.  People wishing to donate food are asked to contact the club beforehand to see what is needed.

There may be delays to people’s bin collection services because of the bush fires.  If this is the case Council will resume the service as soon as possible.  Check Council’s Facebook page and website for information.
