Member for Bega Andrew Constance has today announced that the NSW Liberals & Nationals Government is investing more than $26.3 million into the Eurobodalla to improve water quality and security as part of its $1 billion Safe and Secure Program.

Mr Constance said the NSW Government is investing $25.6 million for the design and construction of the Eurobodalla Southern Water Storage, which will add 3,000 Megalitres of water storage to the Eurobodalla region,” Mr Constance said.

The Eurobodalla Southern Storage project will provide long term water security for the region once built, which is vital to areas such as ours during long periods of dry weather.

“We are also investing $762,000 to eliminate the risk of sewage pollution to Wallaga Lake through the design and construction of a pressure sewerage system at Akolele to transfer sewage to the Bermagui sewerage treatment plant.”

“The Program prioritises key water infrastructure projects – from local drought backup systems through to new or upgraded dams to secure water supplies for our regional communities.

“The NSW Government will continue to work with local councils like Eurobodalla Shire Council to provide water infrastructure that improves the lives of locals.”

Minister for Water, Property and Housing Melinda Pavey said NSW communities depend on access to clean water, and wastewater infrastructure that meets environmental and health standards.

“This drought is outside the history books, while we continue to invest in emergency water infrastructure we must ensure we are maintaining our regional water infrastructure and investing in the future of our communities,” Mrs Pavey said.

“The Program prioritises key water infrastructure projects – from local drought backup systems through to new or upgraded dams to secure water supplies for our regional communities.

“The NSW Government will continue to work with local councils as the utility provider to provide water infrastructure that improves the lives of locals.”

Eurobodalla Mayor Liz Innes said Council welcomed the NSW Government’s contribution to the project.

“This funding is just so critical to the future water security and economic growth of the Eurobodalla. The new storage also means improved environmental outcomes for the Tuross River and better support for our farmers who also rely on the river.”

We are really grateful for the support of the NSW Government, our local member Andrew Constance MP and Minister Melinda Pavey MP who are backing our community to succeed.”

The Safe and Secure Water Program is a $1 billion regional infrastructure co-funding program established in 2017 under the NSW Government’s Restart NSW Fund.
