COUNCIL NEWS 25 SEPTEMBER 2019 The Henry Lawson Oval Redevelopment is well underway with the demolition of the existing facility and the construction of the new facility was completed on Thursday 5 September. The SCCF funding will be a real ‘game changer’ for sport in the Weddin Shire as it will enable us to upgrade our sports facilities to give every person in the Weddin Shire access to ‘State of the Art’ sporting facilities which will assist them in reaching their full potential in their chosen sport. 1. Demolition work was completed on Thursday 5 September 2. A temporary power pole has been established for the oval lights in case of emergency services 3. Requests for quotation have been sent out for concrete, structural steel, termite control and hydraulics 4. Requests for quotation for roofing supply, roofing and cladding install, brick supply, electrical and mechanical will be completed shortly.

Riverina Nationals’ MP and Deputy Prime Minister the Hon Michael McCormack MP is reminding schools to apply for a share in up to $200,000 in funding. The funding is a fantastic opportunity for schools to receive funding ranging for $1,000 to $20,000 to put towards projects which they deem as important to making such a difference for students and their education. Schools can use the funding for infrastructure projects such as classroom refurbishments, sports facilities or playground equipment. The money can also be put towards other projects including mental health and counselling services, library resources and new computer facilities. Guidelines, frequently asked questions and other information about the Local Schools Community Fund (LSCF) are on the Department of Education’s website at www.education.gov.au/local-schools-community-fund  Applications are to be submitted through the Department of Education’s SchoolsHUB portal at https://schools.education.gov.au

  The Hon Steph Cooke MP has announced that business startups across the Cootamundra electorate that are developing new products are invited to apply for development grants of up to $25,000 from the NSW Government. This is a fantastic opportunity for innovative local businesses to get assistance from the NSW Government to help fund the development of new technologies. To be eligible for a grant, NSW startups need to be still establishing their business and have the right to a prototype technology that has business potential to grow. Applications for the 2019/2020 financial year Minimum Viable Project (MVP) grants are now open and is encouraging eligible local companies to apply.   The Hon Steph Cooke MP is also encouraging farmers from the Cootamundra electorate to nominate for the prestigious NSW Farmer of the Year and NSW Young Farmer of the Year awards, warning applications close next week. The NSW Farmer of the Year Award is open to all formers, fishers and foresters; while the NSW Young Farmer of the Year Award if open to all farmers, fishers and foresters aged 18 to 35. The awards are judged o the innovative tools farmers are using to prepare for the future, techniques being used to boost productivity and yields and initiatives being implemented to keep farmers, their family and their workers safe and well.   Cowra information and Neighbourhood Centre will be holding a Family Fun Day at Grenfell in Vaughn Park on Tuesday 1st October 10.30am-1.00pm. The day will include a free BQQ lunch, Jumping Castle, Bucking Bull and games for the whole family.

  The new exhibition at the Grenfell Art Gallery is the ‘Our Wardrobe: Bringing Characters to Life for 60 years’ Presented by the Grenfell Dramatic Society. The exhibition will be on display from 11 September to 20th October, 2019. Following the exhibition opening at 7pm on the 11th September, the Dramatic Society will be holding Radio Plays ‘The Maltese Falcon’ & ‘Easy Aces’. Tickets $10 (include tea/coffee) – Available from CJ Andersons. The Grenfell Dramatic Society is excited to showcase their wardrobe’s most beautiful vintage clothing, along with the production costumes that have brought their characters to life over the 60 years the Society has been active. Take a walk down memory lane and wander through the years in both fashion and their local theatrical productions. The society began in 1957 performing drama plays before holding the first large musical production “Salad Days” in 1968. After the success of the first production, the wardrobe expanded rapidly with the inception of a “Wardrobe Committee”. The Art Gallery is open Monday to Friday 10am - 4pm, Saturday 10am - 3pm & Sunday 10am -2pm.

  Finally a reminder that the Grenfell Jockey Club Races will be held this Saturday 28 September, 2019. Entry is $15 per head. A courtesy bus runs from town to the race course before the first race and returns to town after the last race. Entertainment includes children's rides, live music by the Grenfell Town & District Band, 'Fashions in the Field' and a canteen and bar. The races are a great opportunity to enjoy a day of wholesome family fun in a relaxed country atmosphere. This race meet features the Henry Lawson Loaded Dog Handicap and the Grenfell Cup.
