Draft Bellingen Shire Local Housing Strategy Public Exhibition

Make sure you have your say during the public exhibition of the Draft Bellingen Shire Local Housing Strategy.
That’s the message Council’s Planning Services Team wants you to remember as they prepare to embark on a series of meet and greets across the shire promoting our Draft Local Housing Strategy.
Bellingen Shire Council Mayor, Cr Dominic King, said the team would be gathering community feedback on the draft strategy this Saturday 07th September 2019 at the Dorrigo Markets, on Sunday 08th September at the Urunga Markets and on Saturday 21st September at the Bellingen Markets.
“Our community played a key role in shaping this draft strategy during our award winning Homes for Our Future Community Engagement Project, which saw our team talk with more than 500 community members, collect 250 detailed submissions and log more than 1,900 comments.”
“This engagement identified our community’s shared vision, hopes and aspirations on how they wanted our shire to grow, their priorities for future planning and ideas on how to address the complex opportunities and challenges facing our shire.”
“Now it’s time to seek the community’s thoughts again on how we’ve used their feedback and translated it into our Draft Bellingen Shire Housing Strategy, which will guide local residential housing growth in the shire for the next 20 years.”
Mayor King said it was important to place the draft strategy on exhibition and seek community feedback on it, because the strategy would be used to guide future housing growth to accommodate a predicted influx of an additional 3,398 residents into the shire by 2040.
“This strategy will guide where we will provide housing, the appropriate volume, type and style of housing that meets the needs of our shire, and it will also be used to inform our planning for the infrastructure and services necessary to support this growth.”
“So I encourage everyone to drop in and speak with one of our Planning Services Team Members at a market display session, or simply go online to learn more about our Draft Local Housing Strategy and to let us know your thoughts and ideas,” Mayor, Cr Dominic King said.
The Draft Bellingen Shire Local Housing Strategy will be on display between Wednesday 04th September and Friday 18th October 2019, and can be viewed online via the CREATE Community Engagement Hub and Council’s website at www.bellingen.nsw.gov.au. Alternately, hard copies of the Draft Bellingen Shire Local Housing Strategy will be on display at Council’s Bellingen, Urunga and Dorrigo Branch Libraries.
