Council confident of stadium availability

Mayor Kevin Mack says Council will be encouraging the Ovens and Murray Football-Netball League to consider the Lavington Sports Ground as a grand final venue for 2020 and beyond.

“The redevelopment is progressing well and while there’s been a couple of minor set-backs, we don’t envisage any further delays to the works program with the estimated completion being August 2020.”

“We’ve been hosting O&M games on the sports ground this season and there will be full access to the ground for the upcoming cricket season and 2020 O&M season.”

Cr Mack says the new secondary sports field is complete and the Lavington Panthers Cricket Club will soon prepare the turf wickets for the 2019-20 season.

“Over the next 12 months, works will focus on the new grand stand and amenities.  The addition of AFL standard change rooms, new coaches and media facilities, first class function space overlooking the arena and improved access into the stadium will ensure we can not only host the O&M grand final, but will attract many other national and regional events to Albury.”

“We would welcome any opportunity to discuss the O&M 2020 grand final with the league and we look forward to opening what will be one of regional Australia's premier sporting facilities,” Cr Mack said.
