Liverpool’s residents have a once-in-a-generation chance to help shape their city’s future as Liverpool City Council calls for submissions on Connected Liverpool 2050.

Connected Liverpool 2050 is Council’s draft Local Strategic Planning Statement (LSPS). It will guide development in Liverpool for the next 30 years, balancing the need for housing, jobs and services as well as parks, community facilities and the natural environment.

Key priorities in the draft LSPS include:

Protecting the local character of suburbs;Concentrating new homes close to transport;Improving connections to the Georges River;Establishing a rapid transit corridor to link the CBD and Western Sydney International Airport; andDeveloping Liverpool as Sydney’s third CBD.

“We know Liverpool residents are passionate about their city,” Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller said. “More than 800 people took part in our recent survey on Liverpool’s future and we’ve used their responses to help prepare Connected Liverpool 2050.

“Some clear themes came out of that survey – residents told us they want more parks, trees and green spaces; better streets and public transport; a cleaner environment; and more car parking.

“Now we’re asking residents to tell us whether we have got it right. Connected Liverpool 2050 will chart Liverpool’s path to the future, and we want the community to help guide it on the way.”

Residents can get involved by visiting listens.liverpool.nsw.gov.au, where they can read the draft LSPS, take a survey, post their ideas and make submissions.

Council staff will be out and about in the community, visiting shopping centres, libraries and community centres to get first-hand feedback on Connected Liverpool 2050.

Connected Liverpool 2050 is on public exhibition until 9 August 2019.
