Check out the concept design for Veterans Memorial Park

Let us know what you think of our vision for Veterans Memorial Park, Aberdare! The concept design plans for the upgrade of the park are now on exhibition and we are looking forward to your feedback on the design.

Council has identified the need to offer more diverse facilities at Veterans Memorial Park to aid a healthy and active lifestyle for all park visitors. This need to cater to all park users has assisted in the creation of the concept design.

The concept design proposes the removal of existing play equipment, deteriorated pathways and park furniture.

New play elements will be installed that target everyone from young children to teenagers. This includes a combo nest swing, accessible spinner, inclusive rocker, junior unit, senior unit and aero skate. The plan is also cater for those who enjoy a visit to the park on wheels. A bike/ scooter track will be installed with some bike racks.

All users will also enjoy the installation of a shade sail, a safer surface, new shelters, a drinking fountain and improved landscaping.

Cessnock City Mayor, Councillor Bob Pynsent said the concept design has something for everyone including additional pathways, a BBQ area, improved seating and solar lighting.

“Public spaces need to change with the growing demands of the community. The proposed work offer something for everyone regardless of age or ability. We want everyone to be able to enjoy the fresh air and get active.”

This project was made possible through Council securing funding under the NSW Government’s Stronger Country Communities Fund. To view the concept plans and submit your feedback before 28 May 2019 visit https://www.cessnock.nsw.gov.au/community/exhibition.
