This Friday 3 May 2019 will be a significant day for Health in the Weddin Shire with the official opening of the new Grenfell Medical Centre.

The construction of the new Medical Centre will see a fit for purpose building including five consulting rooms, minor operations room, practice manager room, practice nurse room, medical meeting rooms, reception area, kitchen, storage facilities, office spaces and a dental services area with 2 consultation spaces developed. The Medical Centre will be of a very high standard and designed to serve the community well into the future. It will also include e-Health capacity with excellent digital integration facilitating collaboration and connectivity between the Health Hub, Grenfell MPS and the Orange Health Service.  This modern facility will be a ‘game changer’ in attracting and retaining General Practitioners (GPs) and facilitating the delivery of health services to the residents of the Weddin Shire for many years into the future. 

As previously advised Pakmed Group Australia Pty Ltd led by principal Dr Patrick Akhiwu will operate the new Medical Centre commencing on Monday 13 May, 2019.

The 2019 ANZAC commemoration was held in a very dignified and respectful manner at Memorial Park on Thursday, 25th April 2019.   Ex RAAF Corporal Maurice Reynolds delivered the Commemorative Address at the ANZAC Service, delivering a very enlightening and informative address. It was a very good day which afforded residents and visitors the opportunity to remember and honour the service and sacrifice of many Australians who lost their lives in the conflicts.

The Grenfell RSL Sub Branch held a ‘Dining In’ night in the tradition of the Royal Australian Air Force on Saturday evening 27 April at the Grenfell Country Club.  WOFF Michael Loproto was the guest speaker and delivered a very informative and thought provoking address.

It was a terrific night which gave an insight into the Air Force way of life and certainly made us appreciate the many sacrifices made by those who have and still are serving our Country.

The NSW Government has opened applications for the new funding program called ‘My Community Project’.  The amount of funding available is from $20,000 to $200,000. This program will enable individuals to put forward their ideas for a project in their area and a public vote will determine which projects have the most community support. Voting for the nominated projects will take place over a period of four weeks from the 15th July 2019 to the 15th August 2019. Examples of projects to be considered in this program are:

Playgrounds Public Gardens Upgrades to local sporting facilities Health Programs

Submissions can be lodged online at https://mcp.smartygrants.com.au/2019. Submissions close at 2.00pm on 15th May, 2019.

Residents are reminded that the Rural Financial Counselling Service NSW Central Region have advised that Financial Counsellor, John Beer is available to visit Grenfell. The Rural Financial Counselling Service provides free impartial and confidential services to farmers and small agricultural businesses.   They also provide information and assistance with farm innovation funds, natural disaster assistance and can assist in helping clients with a better understanding of their financial position.  Appointments are necessary and can be made on Ph 1800 940 404 or mobile 0408 973 723.

Residents are also reminded that applications for the NSW Family Energy rebate are now open. NSW Families with dependent children who may be eligible are encouraged to apply for 2018-2019 Family Energy Rebate of up to $180.  The Family Energy Rebate is one of a number of NSW Government energy assistance programs to help eligible households reduce the impact of energy costs.  For more information or to fill out an application form visit https://www.service.nsw.gov.au/transaction/apply-familyenergy-rebate-supply-customers Applications close Thursday 20 June 2019.

Applications are now open for the Resilient Australia Awards and the NSW Get Ready Community Award. The Resilient Australia Awards are a national program to recognise and promote initiatives that strengthen community disaster resilience. Applications are judged first at the state and territory level and winners become finalists for national judging and the chance to win a National Resilient Award. Applications close 17 May 2019. The Stan McCabe ‘Good Sports Night’ will be held on Friday, 24 May 2019 at the Grenfell Showground.

The fundraiser is paying homage to local cricketer Stan McCabe and will feature guest speakers Doug Walters and John Banaud. Admission is $70 for families, $50 for singles, $25 for pensioners and $10 for solo teens. All funds raised will go to the Black Dog Institute, Drought Relief Fund and the Grenfell Showground Trust.

The new exhibition at the Grenfell Art Gallery is "Landscape Shadows" by Cathie Coleman and is on display from 16 April to 30 May 2019. Cathie has lived, taught and made art at her Bittern studio on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria for many years. Her recent paintings encompass a play of light and dark within the landscape which creates an emotive response. Cathie's paintings emerge from her observation and interest in the breadth of the land around her, through a realist beginning to a landscape painting rich in feelings, secrets, shapes, patterns and colours. Cathie also designs one off jewellery pieces which will be featured in her exhibition - including sterling silver rings, neck pieces with silver, leather, silver chain of varying links and semi precious and collected beads.  The Art Gallery is open Monday to Friday 10am - 4pm, Saturday 10am - 3pm & Sunday 10am -2pm.

COMMUNITY CONSULTATION

Weddin Shire Council has been granted $1m grant funding under the Federal, Liberal and National Governments Drought Communities Program (DCP) and residents are invited to provide feedback to Council on where the funding could be spent.

OF THE

GRENFELL MEDICAL CENTRE

Residents are hereby invited to attend the official opening of the new Grenfell Medical Centre on Friday 3 May, 2019 at 11.00am.

The official opening will be conducted by the Deputy Prime Minister and Member for Riverina, the Hon Michael McCormack MP onsite at 156 Burrangong Street, Grenfell.
