Sunday 28 April marks the official end of the 2018/2019 swim season.

Wollongong City Council is encouraging people who would like to keep swimming in the ocean in the off season to go to North Wollongong Beach, as it is the only beach patrolled by lifeguards until next Spring.

You can also swim at Council’s Continental, Corrimal and Dapto pools all year. Wollongong City Lord Mayor Councillor Gordon Bradbery AM said it had been a busy season with more than one million beach attendances.

“Stanwell Park, Austinmer and North Wollongong Beaches remain our most popular beaches, accounting for almost 40 per cent of attendances to 31 March 2019.

“There were almost 400 rescues during the season and more than 33,000 swimmers were advised to move to a safer area or back between the flags. These statistics are testament to the tremendous work our lifeguards do protecting residents and visitors at our beaches,” Cr Bradbery said.

The end of the official swimming season also means Council’s pools at Helensburgh, Unanderra and Berkley will be closed from Saturday 27 April until late September, with Thirroul and Port Kembla pools open until 31 May.
