Free workshop to help local groups applying for Council grants

Published on 24 April 2019

Council is hosting a free two hour Grants workshop in the Mullumbimby Chambers on Tuesday 30 April (5pm to 7pm) to help and inspire community groups wishing to apply for grants through Council’s Community Initiatives Program and/or the Events and Sponsorship Fund – both of which are currently open.

Applications for the Community Initiatives Program are open until Friday 10 May, while the Events & Sponsorship Fund application deadline is 4pm Friday 24 May 2019.

“Council is proud to offer a range of annual funding opportunities to our not-for-profit community groups whose tireless efforts produce a rich tapestry of activities and experiences that would not otherwise be on offer to our community,” Council’s Community Project Officer, Joanne McMurtry said.

“These grant programs are designed to acknowledge and support community-driven initiatives that address a specific community need, help to build a sense of community and align with Council’s goals,” she said.

The Community Initiatives Program is available for grants up to $5000 per community project (by not-for-profit groups only) and must provide evidence of a matching contribution.  There is a total of $35,000 funding available.

The Events and Sponsorship Fund includes a total of $10,000 funding which will be split between up to five events and aims to support a range of significant home grown and emerging events.

“Both of these Council-run grants programs support projects from a diverse range of settings, including arts and culture, sport and recreation, community wellbeing, equity and inclusion, human rights, education, lifelong learning and environmental sustainability," Ms McMurtry said.

We strongly encourage any groups with an interest in applying for a Council grant to come along to our funding workshop on Tuesday 30 April for helpful grant writing tips, and to find out more about how to use our research web-tool.
