New skatepark for Millfield

Cessnock City Council’s excited to announce Millfield will have its own skatepark and residents are invited to a community workshop to help Council come up with a vision for the skatepark.

The pre-design workshop on Wednesday 1 May will run from 5:30pm to 7:30pm at the Millfield Community Hall.

The workshop is a forum for residents to share their own ideas and assist in the design process. Participants will be asked to contribute using a number of different creative methods including a tactile design workshop. A skate specialist will be facilitating the workshop and will use the community feedback to come up with a detailed plan for the skatepark.

Cessnock City Mayor, Councillor Bob Pynsent encouraged residents to get involved and attend the workshop.

“The youngest residents of Millfield will be very happy to hear about this project. We want them to be part of the planning phase to determine the best layout and design.”

Currently Council has funding for Stage One of the project, which totals $160,000. All future stages will be subject to additional funding being secured.

Council’s Open Space and Community Facilities Manager, Nicole Benson said $160,000 is a good start.

“It would be great to deliver the entire skatepark, however currently we only have funding for the first stage. Council will continue to look for funding opportunities to see the project completed.”

Once a draft concept design is produced Council will again share it with the community for feedback.
