Council Supports Moree Show

The Moree Show will be held over the weekend of 26 -27 April 2019 and the Moree Show Society has been given a $2000 funding boost through the Moree Plains Shire Council’s Public Donations financial assistance program to help provide a family oriented event for the whole community.

The Moree Show Society Secretary, Karen Munn explained that the funds will be used to assist with running costs and keep the annual show - which is now in its 135th year - accessible to all Moree Plains residents.

“The Moree Show supports relationships in the community by bringing people together, and provides an outlet for families to connect at an entertaining and enjoyable event.

“With the drought and dry times severely affecting our community and the region as a whole, we try to engage as many people as possible by inviting the whole community to participate through entering competitions and visiting educational exhibits.”

This year’s show will see The Rooftop Express returning along with all the family favourites including the Battle of the Aggies Tug of War Challenge, Gill Bros. Rodeo, Farmer’s Challenge, ute barrel races, horse events, Showgirl Competition, the pet show and much more.

“Everyone in the Show Society has put in an enormous effort to help showcase the best of rural living; including local produce, livestock, arts, crafts and cooking.

“The Moree Show Society is very grateful to the Moree Plains Shire Council for its continued support,” said Mrs Munn.

Mayor, Cr Katrina Humphries said, “Moree Plains Shire Council is very proud to support the Moree Show Society. We are very mindful of how important these events are for our community and we are incredibly grateful to Society members for putting their hands up year-on-year to pull this event together”.

If your community, sporting or educational group wishes to apply for financial assistance for a local event, function or sponsorship, applications for the period from July - September 2019 are due 14 June 2019.
