Liverpool’s newest food festival had all the right ingredients to make it a successful celebration of the city’s multicultural community.

That’s the message from Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller, who said Liverpool City Council’s inaugural Liverpool on a Roll was a treat for locals and visitors to the city alike.

“Liverpool is a cultural melting pot, with residents hailing from 150 different countries,” Mayor Waller said.

“Food serves as a clear connection with our diverse community and Council was delighted to partner with local restaurants and cafes to showcase a range of international flavours ‘on a roll’.

“From bao and banh mi to burgers and ‘burritos’ made of fairy floss and ice cream, attendees were treated to dishes $12 or under with origins from every continent except Antarctica.

“Throw in garden games and fantastic live entertainment from talented locals in a picturesque parkland setting and you’ve got a recipe for success.”

Despite earlier rain and cold wind, more than 10,000 people came to the new food festival at Greenway Park, West Hoxton, on Saturday evening.

“We had an overwhelming response and the crowd was far larger than we anticipated, with some food vendors selling out of their popular ‘on a roll’ dishes,” Mayor Waller said.

“We’ll know for next time just how popular Liverpool on a Roll will be and I wish to thank attendees for their patience, as well as our event sponsors and partners for helping to bring our new food festival to life.

“I encourage attendees to visit listens.liverpool.nsw.gov.au to provide feedback that will allow us to continue delivering exceptional experiences in Liverpool and our suburbs.”

Event sponsors included Willowdale (Gold Sponsor), Service NSW (Bronze Sponsor), Time Out (Lifestyle Publisher Partner) and 2DayFM (Exclusive Radio Sponsor).
