2019-2020 Draft Operational Plan

One of Council’s most important community planning documents for the year - the Draft 2019-2020 Operational Plan (Draft Plan) – was approved for public exhibition at Tuesday night’s Council meeting.

The Draft Plan is the third year of the Delivery Program. It contains a long list of exciting projects and important services that Fairfield City residents can expect to be delivered over the financial year.

Fairfield City Mayor Frank Carbone said Council will build upon the success of recent years with continued development of Aquatopia and Fairfield Showground as well as new community-building projects and the everyday services residents rely on.

“Council is working hard to strengthen Fairfield City as a great place to live, work and raise a family through affordable and accessible family-friendly projects,” Mayor Carbone said.

“We are encouraging our residents to be active and healthy with great outdoor facilities, supporting local businesses with improved parking and town centres and boosting learning opportunities through new library services.

“We are doing this while still delivering the everyday services our residents deserve and expect, while keeping our rates among the lowest in Sydney.”

Some of the major projects for the community include:

Further expansion of the Aquatopia Water Park in Prairiewood Construction of the Hughes Street Car Park in Cabramatta ($10 million) Widening of Smithfield Road into four lanes to assist with traffic flow Continued redevelopment of the Fairfield Showground into a Regional Multicultural and Sporting Centre of Excellence. Construction and opening of a community park in Villawood Fit out of the new Fairfield Branch Library at 1-3 Hamilton Road, Fairfield ($910,000).

In addition to these major projects, Council will continue to deliver quality services and projects including:

Investing almost $12 million into upgrading local roads throughout the City $5.5 million for the renewal of our community centres, childcare, car parks, libraries and leisure centres Spending $2.3 million on new and upgraded footpaths across the City Allocating almost $1.4 million for town centre upgrades $1.4 million for upgrades to parks and reserve amenities, sportsgrounds and play equipment Reinvesting $1 million from car park revenue into upgrading town centres, park infrastructure, youth mentoring programs and school safety initiatives.

“While delivering all this and much more, Council will also remain in a strong financial position with a draft budgeted operating surplus of $3.5 million for the next year.”

Residents can view the draft plan on Council’s website and physical copies can be viewed at Council’s Administration Building, Libraries and Leisure Centres from 29 March until 29 April.
