Urgent remediation works at Ashfield Flats

The Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage who manage the Ashfield Flats on behalf of the WA Planning Commission, will be undertaking works to stabilize a section near the boardwalk area of the pathway, where erosion is so great that it is likely trees will fall into the river if remediation works are not started soon. The low tides expected in the next couple of weeks will provide an ideal window to carry out these works.

The works involve the erection of a brush wall dam to allow for clean fill to be added and then the planting of endemic reed species to create the root mass needed to stabilise the bank. There is also remediation planned along the existing fence in the area to reinstate fence posts, also in danger of falling into the river.

Signage will be provided to advise of the anticipated works and DPLH are seeking the support of the community to avoid access into these areas, particularly by dogs, to ensure that the areas remain undisturbed and the reeds that will be planted, can grow.

The section where these foreshore stabilization works will be undertaken is shown in red below.
