Celebrate the Year of the Pig at Cabramatta’s Lunar New Year celebrations on 16-17 February 2019.

Freedom Plaza will be transformed into a sea of red lanterns and marigolds for two days of family and community celebrations.

From 9am-4pm, there will be cultural festivities including the God of Fortune, Lion Dancing, firecrackers, single-handed prawn peeling competitions, children’s chopstick challenge, traditional performers and loads of exciting entertainment for the whole family.

Every child’s favourite cheeky pigs Peppa Pig and her brother George Pig will entertain families with live performances at 1.30pm and 3.30pm both days, taking children on a journey of learning to take turns, with a meet and greet at 2.30pm.

Local dance group Dauntless Movement Crew (DMC) will perform a special Three Little Pigs Show at 12.25pm on Sunday. DMC are known for their street style and acrobatic dance moves which are sure to have little ones dancing along.

Children can also join Captain Blue, Captain Red, Captain Black and Pirate Pinky on a swashbuckling adventure when the Party Pirates take the stage from 2pm on Saturday and Sunday.

Lunar New Year celebrations will continue with a full program of music and dance performances that will thrill family members of all ages across the weekend. There will also be carnival games, jumping castle and paddle boats, as well as free craft, free face painting and air brush tattoos.

Fairfield City Mayor Frank Carbone said Cabramatta’s Lunar New Year celebrations offer something for everyone to enjoy.

“Lunar New Year is one of the most important traditions for people right across south east Asia. It brings families and communities together to celebrate the year past and to look forward to the fortunes of the year ahead,” Mayor Carbone said.

“Cabramatta is the heart of Australia’s Vietnamese community. It is a vibrant and exciting place to live and visit, with plenty of delicious food and shopping experiences. There is no better place in Australia to celebrate the Lunar New Year than right here in Fairfield City.

“I invite everyone to join the Cabramatta community on 16-17 February to celebrate this important ancient tradition, enjoy the food and soak up the colour and culture of Lunar New Year.”

Join us from 9am on Saturday and Sunday as the streets of Cabramatta come alive with an array of colour, activity and culinary delights.
