Replacement of Milsons Arm Bridge to improve access

Cessnock City Council is preparing to undertake works at Milsons Arm Bridge, Wollombi to replace the ageing structure with a new steel bridge.

Works will commence on Milsons Arm Road on Wednesday 30 January and are expected to be completed by Thursday 28 February. Unfortunately access to Milsons Arm Road will not be available for up to 48 hours while the new bridge is being installed between Tuesday 12 February and Wednesday 13 February.

Cessnock City Mayor, Councillor Bob Pynsent thanked the residents for their cooperation and said the new structure will be a big improvement.

“The existing timber bridge has deteriorated over time due to age, weather conditions and flood events. The replacement bridge will improve road safety and withstand the Wollombi weather for years to come.”

“While the new bridge design was engineered to accelerate the replacement process, due to the complexities of the site, closing the bridge is unavoidable. However the works will provide the residents with a new bridge that is structurally stronger, safer and higher to lessen the impact of flooding.”

Council recognises this is a major disruption to local residents and has endeavoured to liaise with affected residents and identify the best time to conduct the closure. Works will be undertaken both day and night to achieve the 48 hour closure period.

Council thanks residents for their patience while these important infrastructure works are being carried out.
