Council has listened to the community and plans to double its footpath investment to $3million each year for the next ten years and we need to know your thoughts on the proposal.

Commencing January 2019, Council is encouraging residents to let us know their opinion on our first ever draft WALK – Northern Beaches Walking Plan.

The proposal will be funded by developer contributions, grants and Council’s operating surplus.

The draft Plan outlines Council’s future footpath delivery program, grouped under five priority headings - ranging from Immediate Priority (proposed for delivery in the 2019-2020 reporting period) and going through to Not Required or Not Feasible.

The new funding will be in addition to our existing significant investment in the Northern Beaches Coast Walk which will provide an iconic coastal walkway connecting Manly and Palm Beach by 2020.

Improving footpaths not only helps people get around more easily but also supports our aim of supporting the community to be less car dependent which is a bonus for our health and the environment.

Footpaths also connect our community to everything from schools, to workplaces, parks, beaches and sportsfields as well as our family and friends homes.  Council also values the abilities of all residents and always considers making paths accessible for all members of the community.

Northern Beaches Council will conduct a wide-ranging public engagement program during the Walking Plan exhibition period which will commence in the New Year.
