New England residents are preparing to thaw from winter and Armidale Regional Sports Council is encouraging everyone to ‘Get Active’.

A final call is being issued for sports and recreation groups, as well as fitness businesses, who would like to offer ‘come and try’ sessions as part of the 2018 Newcastle Permanent Get Active Armidale Program in October.

“This is a perfect opportunity for groups to attract new participants who have considered trying a sport or recreational activity but might have been dissuaded by the cost or having to commit that pursuit,” Armidale Regional Council Sports Coordinator Amy Biggs said.

“Get Active assists clubs, sports associations and businesses to host the sessions, giving people a chance for a bite-sized, no-commitment sample of the sport or activity. A great variety of organisations have already put up their hands to get involved and we’re keen to get more involved, so there is an even broader range of experiences on offer.”

Get Active Armidale Program is generously supported by Newcastle Permanent and is one of the Armidale Regional Sports Council’s initiatives to promote active lifestyles.

“Not only does Get Active encourage people to do something new, the program educates the community about the benefits of being physically active every day,” Ms Biggs said.

Get Active will be held from Monday 22 October to Sunday 4 November 2018 and includes a growing selection of free and fun activities.

Organisations that have signed up so far include New England Mountain Bikers, Sport UNE, Healthy Inspirations, F45 Gym, Armidale Indoor Sport and Recreation , New England Barbell, Kiltman Fitness, Creighton Personal Training,  Armidale District Cricket Association, New England Sailing Club and Northern Inland football. All participating groups will be listed in Get Active promotions, providing good exposure for their organisation.

Expressions of interest for clubs and organisations to host a session and get involved have been extended to Wednesday 5 September 2018. Forms can be requested by emailing [email protected].

Registrations for the public to get involved will open on 12 September 2018 and information can be found by visiting www.armidale.nsw.gov.au.  For further information, please contact the Sports Coordinator on 1300 136 833.
