Fairfield City community on top of waste

On Sunday, 9 September from 7am-3.30pm, residents of Fairfield City can dispose of furniture, mattresses, appliances, electronic items and garden waste at Council’s free Spring Clean Drop Off Day.

Fairfield City Mayor Frank Carbone said the free Spring Clean Drop Off day aims to help residents get rid of their unwanted items the right way.

“This free service is a Council initiative to help keep our City clean and keep rubbish off our streets,” Mayor Carbone said.

‘It is in addition to the twice yearly kerbside collection, Recycling Centre service, our recent chemical drop-off day and extra recycling service over Christmas.

“Last year, more than 1,500 residents took advantage of our free drop off day with Council collecting 150 tonnes of rubbish.

“Council collected a total of 80,000 tonnes from residents’ red and yellow lidded bins last financial year, or approximately half a tonne per person.

“About 12,000 tonnes, or 1,600 truckloads of rubbish was recycled last year.”
