Final Call for Air Service Survey & Submissions

Moree Plains Shire Council Mayor Katrina Humphries has implored the residents of the Shire to send a clear message to Transport for NSW that a substandard Moree-Sydney air service is simply not acceptable, as the licensing process for the route enters its next phase.

On Wednesday 20 June 2018 Council’s General Manager Lester Rodgers represented the community at a meeting of the Evaluation Committee to review expressions of interest for the licensing of the route. The meeting included representatives from Transport for NSW and Mr Rodgers, who has been appointed to the committee as a non-voting advisory member.

Following the meeting, it has been acknowledged that a number of carriers will be proceeding to the full application stage of the process.

Council has been undertaking a survey of the community in order to accurately represent the community’s priorities for the carrier’s levels of service.

“We’ve had a great response to the survey to date, which confirms that this is a matter that is of great concern to our residents”, Cr Humphries explained.

“We are however urging not only residents of the Moree Plains Shire, but all users of the service, whether they be from Goondiwindi, Warialda or Sydney, to participate in the survey. This is a matter that not only affects Moree, but the whole of the north west.

“Council is committed to doing all we can to ensure that the Evaluation Committee make the right decision when it comes to awarding the license, but we need the community’s help in getting the message across.

“So please share the survey far and wide, ask your friends, family and your visitors from the city to fill it out, as a reliable air service is imperative for all of us to stay connected, and vital for the long term prosperity of our Shire.”

The survey can be found online at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/S7G6QF3. Hard copies of the survey are available at Moree Plains Shire Council’s Max Centre office, Max Centre, Boggabilla and Mungindi offices, the Moree Big Sky Library, Tourism Moree, Moree Regional Airport and M&G Travel.

Users of the air service are also strongly encouraged to write a written submission to Council, Member for Nothern Tablelands Adam Marshall and Transport for NSW, to provide their personal input for consideration.

Written submissions can be submitted at Moree Plains Shire Council’s Max Centre, Boggabilla and Mungindi offices, or the Moree Big Sky Library.
