Arts April in Fremantle
City of Fremantle 3 Apr 2024
"You don’t have to be good at art, for art to be good for you.”

There are plenty of ways to be mentally healthy including exercise, eating healthy, or spending time with close friends or family. While these are all great for your mental health, we often forget how the arts and being creative can also improve personal wellbeing as well as the wellbeing of those around us.

Being creative can mean different things to different people. It can be as simple as listening to music, reading a book, drawing, or any type of creative process. For some this can be a way to relax, for others a way to express or share feelings, or an opportunity to learn a new skill. Everyone is different, but being creative in any way that’s unique to you can promote good mental health including boosting your sense of wellbeing, confidence, and self-esteem.

Arts, culture, and creativity also provides vital social connection, deepen our sense of belonging and enhance shared understanding. Engaging in two hours of arts per week is also linked to good mental health and wellbeing reducing stress anxiety and depression.

To support creativity in Fremantle and promote positive mental health for all, the City is working in partnership with Mentally Healthy WA to promote the Act Belong Commit message by celebrating Arts April and all the ways people can be creative in Fremantle!

Keep an eye on our social media page for all things Arts April. Check out some local activities and groups below and get creative for your mental health this Arts April!
