New General Manager Driving Change at Wembley Golf Course

Published on 30 January 2024

Wembley Golf Course’s newly appointed General Manager, Jason Roach, is teeing up transformation at Australia’s best public golf course.

Born in Kalgoorlie and later relocating to Cairns QLD at the age of 3, the golf enthusiast’s journey eventually led him back to his roots in Western Australia. After a successful tenure as the Director of Golf at Cairns Golf Club, Mr Roach made the move to Perth in March 2020, just before the COVID-19 pandemic changed the world.

Mr Roach’s journey in the golf industry began at the age of 14 when he discovered his natural talent for the game. A hole-in-one during only his second round of golf ignited his passion, propelling him into a successful career as a PGA professional over the past 18 years. At the age of 21, he was faced with the decision of pursuing playing or golf management; he chose the latter, driven by a desire to give back to the game and innovate the golfing experience.

"I realised I wasn't on the same level as some of the golfers in the events I played growing up in Queensland – such as Jason Day who would become world number one – so I shifted my focus to golf management,” Mr Roach said.

“I love the game of golf and wanted to make golf inclusive, accessible, and enjoyable for everyone.  There are so many mental and physical health benefits along with spending time outdoors with your friends, camaraderie, the challenges of golf, meeting new people, and the community feel of a golf course.”

His extensive experience includes not only golf coaching and junior programs, but also a deep commitment to the management side of the sport. Mr Roach emphasises innovation and creativity as the keys to breaking barriers and adapting to the evolving demands of the next generation.

"At Wembley Golf Course, we sell fun and entertainment. If we make it enjoyable, people will continue to return to our great facility."

As the Acting General Manager since December 2022, officially securing the role in December 2023, Mr Roach has spearheaded transformative projects at Wembley Golf Course. Notable accomplishments include the Trackman Range project, mini golf resurfacing and renovation, along with current upgrades to the performance and club fitting studio.

As Wembley Golf Course is evolving as more than just a golfing destination, its new General Manager remains dedicated to ensuring the facility remains a vibrant hub for golf enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels.
