Town Plants Seeds of Mental Health Awareness with Blue Trees

The Town of Cambridge is actively engaged in raising awareness and promoting mental health within its community during the designated Mental Health Awareness Month of May.

The Town has embraced the Blue Tree Project, a symbolic initiative aimed at fostering kindness and support for those facing mental health challenges.

The Blue Tree Project’s fundamental aim is to eradicate the stigma associated with mental health and empower individuals to openly discuss their struggles by painting non-living trees blue, thus sparking crucial conversations while preserving the wellbeing of live trees.

Trees have been painted blue throughout every suburb within the Cambridge precinct, serving as a visual reminder to prioritise our general wellbeing.

Blue Tree Project advocate Mayor Keri Shannon emphasises the importance of kindness, understanding, and collaboration, welcoming active community involvement in this impactful initiative.

“The presence of blue trees throughout our Town reminds us to pause and demonstrate kindness. As a council, we are committed to making informed decisions that benefit our community, and we want residents to know that we are here to address their concerns together,” she said.

“We strive to foster collaborative relationships, treating one another with respect. Our council and staff are dedicated to serving our ratepayers and value their input.”

Mental Health Awareness Month serves as a poignant reminder that mental health is crucial to overall wellbeing. The Town of Cambridge strongly encourages residents to engage in open conversations about mental health, seek support when needed, and cultivate a compassionate and understanding community.
