Fremantle Arts Centre

Make a day of it exploring the galleries at Fremantle Arts Centre.

The gothic heritage building has a long and fascinating history, built in the 1860s as a lunatic asylum.

In 1978 it became the Fremantle Arts Centre and today features a range of exhibitions, events and courses held across the year.

Three exciting new art exhibitions are on display until Sunday 23 October.

‘A Gentle Misinterpretation: Australian Artists and Chinoiserie’ transforms FAC’s gallery space into an opulent, sensual and comedies exploration of one of Western Culture’s most fascinating aesthetic curiosities.

‘Jila Jujarra: Two Snakes Dreaming’ is an exciting cross-cultural collaboration between Warnman artist Desmond Taylor and Boorloo-based textiles practitioner Mariaan Pugh.

While Tania Ferrier’s new exhibition ‘Pop Porn’ is a reverent acknowledgement of women’s experiences and an investigation into the representation of women in popular pornography of the 1980s.

Fremantle Arts Centre galleries are open daily between 10am–5pm.
