King Waves Kill - Blowholes observation area closed
Shire of Carnarvon 13 Jul 2021

Dangerous surf conditions are currently impacting coastlines in the Shire of Carnarvon.  These conditions make it extremely hazardous for coastal activities such as swimming, surfing and rock fishing.

At least one near miss was recorded at the Blowholes observation area today with an individual nearly washed off rocks by a large wave.  Waves have inundated more than half of the carparking area.

The Blowholes observation area is CLOSED until further notice.

There is a well documented history of multiple fatalities and injuries on the Quobba coastline from king waves. King waves form without warning.  King wave formation risk increases during times of larger than normal seas such as now.  King waves inundate areas of coastline far above the normal expectations of most people.  Extreme caution is advised visiting this coastline at present.

The King Waves Kill sign at the Blowholes is not just a photo opportunity, it is a genuine warning.  Please keep well clear of coastal areas that may be impacted by king waves and never turn your back on the ocean.
