Fremantle Community Legal Centre offers free legal advice
City of Fremantle 18 May 2021

The Fremantle Community Legal Centre is offering free legal advice to the public tomorrow as part of The Law Society of WA’s annual Law Week.

Law Week 2021, held from 17–21 May, provides an opportunity for the community to understand the role of law in society.

Lawyers from the Fremantle Community Legal Centre, along with a number of private lawyers, will offer free 20-minute appointments in the Fremantle Malls this Wednesday 19 May from 9.30am until 3pm.

Areas of law include family (divorce, children and property); wills and estates; tenancy; debts; traffic matters; consumer law; employment law; violence/misconduct restraining orders; minor civil matters and minor criminal matters; property matters; medical negligence; and Centrelink issues.

Fremantle Community Legal Centre Principal Solicitor Judy McLean said the aim of Law Week was to help bring the community and legal profession together.

“Law Week provides us with the opportunity to help our community access justice, legal information, resources and support,” Ms McLean said.

“We have a number of lawyers from a private firm who have confirmed their involvement in providing pro bono advice to the public.

“Private lawyers are extremely generous when it comes to providing pro bono legal advice at a financial cost to their own practice on the day. So, it’s great they’re going to be here and taking time out of their day to give free advice to clients.

“We hope these free legal advice sessions will at least assist people seeking advice to gain some insight into their matters, as well as educate and empower them about their rights and responsibilities.”

To register for an appointment or if you have any questions, contact Fremantle Community Legal Centre on 9432 9790 or email [email protected].

The City of Fremantle funds and manages the Fremantle Community Legal Centre, which provides legal and non-legal services including general tenancy advocacy, family law and family domestic violence to low income members of the community.

The Fremantle Community Legal Centre is located inside Fremantle Malls. The address is Level 1, Suite 31, 35 William Street, Fremantle.
