Prospective visitors to Augusta Margaret River are being urged to ensure they have appropriate accommodation secured prior to arriving for their ANZAC long weekend stay.

Tourism providers in the region are fully booked and with no free camping available there are no options available for unplanned visitation.

Shire of Augusta Margaret River CEO Stephanie Addison-Brown said the region always experiences a visitor influx for long weekends but the announcement of a 3-day lockdown in Perth may cause for people to make spontaneous decisions to travel to the South-West.

“There is no free camping in the Shire and, with accommodation outlets in the region fully booked there is nowhere for last minute bookings,” she said.

“We are asking people only come to the region if they have already planned to do so and already have appropriate places to stay. Extra rangers have been put on duty by the Shire to monitor for any instances of illegal camping, which includes sleeping in vehicles.”

Visitors coming from the Perth-Peel region are being urged to comply with mandatory face mask requirements to ensure the safety of the local Augusta Margaret River community.

The official advice is if you have left Perth and Peel since 17 April, you will be required to wear a mask whenever you are in public across WA.

For these people this means you must wear a face mask unless you’re in your home, in your car with people you live with or doing vigorous exercise.

Masks are not necessary for children under 12.

If you are unwell, more than ever you need to stay home and get tested if you’re symptomatic.
