Shire President Cr Denese Smythe and CEO Chris Linnell met with Local Government Minister John Carey this week to visit the York Oliver Battista Motocross Track.

The State Government has provided a $40,000 funding boost to improve the junior track as well as amenities at the facility. The project will also be matched with $40,000 funding from the Shire of York.

Local Government Minister John Carey said "This is an exceptional facility and a credit to the Shire of York which consistently invests in amenities that improve the liveability of the Shire. While this initiative is important locally, it also increases visitors to the area."

Shire President Cr Denese Smythe said “We are grateful for the support from the State Government for this popular facility.  The funding will be used to improve the amenities and optimize the use of space within the area.  This facility has seen increased use as a result of social distancing requirements and increases in local tourism and it is important that the Shire continues to improve it”.
