Friday, 23 October: A Letter to the Editor printed in the Fremantle Herald has criticised its article reporting on Cockburn Council’s decision to close Woodman Point Beach to dogs to protect nesting shorebirds, saying “it would have been nice if your front page article on dogs on the beach was less one-sided and was fact checked”. opens in a new window  Another letter said “It is my experience on my regular visits to the very same beach (minus my dog), dogs can often be seen running freely without any restraint despite signage saying the contrary.” Read the City’s full response to the Herald’s questions about the beach closure opens in a new window.      

Thursday, 22 October:  A Yangebup man has been fined and ordered to pay costs amounting to more than $4650 at Fremantle Magistrates Court, after being found guilty of dumping and littering furniture, white goods and household rubbish in Wattleup. opens in a new window

Coogee resident Belinda Cipriano was one of five winners at the Portuguese Community Council of Western Australia’s WA Portuguese Citizen of the Year awards. opens in a new window A former journalist, Cipriano took out the Culture and Arts category for her work in WA media, charity work and the release of her children’s picture book Constance and Madeleine’s Seaside Adventure in English and Portuguese in July.

Wednesday, 21 October: Barrow Park in North Coogee has been recognised as Australia’s best play space for 2020 by the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (AILA). opens in a new window The park, which includes a junior bicycle pump track with viewing deck and an adjacent playground featuring recycled materials and coastal plants, won the 2020 AILA play space award on 15 October at a digital event during 2020 Land-E-Scape Week.
