Six Cockburn ARC employees have been recognised at the Royal Life Saving WA 2020 Bravery Awards for their immediate actions to save the life of a member in the vital first minutes after the onset of a heart attack on 15 June. opens in a new window Stuart McDonough, who had been swimming laps in the 50m outdoor pool, was transported to hospital where he had open heart bypass surgery later that evening. As primary responders, Adam Anistino, Tamila Andreeva, Jennifer Littlejohn and Rhiannon Keel all received a Gold Star Bravery Award while second responders Sarahjayne Whitely and Tayliah Zimmer received Bravery Commendations.

Thursday, 8 October: There are some changes to dog beaches following the Council’s adoption of the Animal Management and Exercise Plan 2020-2025. opens in a new window Roughly 40 per cent of Cockburn’s coastline is available to dogs all year round, but the findings of an independent Environmental Impact Assessment has resulted in dogs now being prohibited at Woodman Point beach. This will protect the vulnerable Australian Fairy Tern and federally protected shore-nesting birds.

Local businesses have rebounded strongly over the past six months and many are not worried by the recent changes to the JobKeeper scheme, according to the Melville Cockburn Chamber of Commerce. opens in a new window MCCC chief executive Monique Williams said she believed local business would be unfazed by the recent changes to the federal support scheme due to the WA economy’s recent resurgence.
