(24/10/2019) Meet your new Fremantle Council
City of Fremantle 24 Oct 2019

A new-look Fremantle Council was sworn in at a special council meeting last night.

Four new faces were elected to the council in the local government election held last weekend.

Geoff Graham in Beaconsfield Ward, Su Groome in East Ward, Frank Mofflin in Hilton Ward and Marija Vujcic in South Ward were all elected to four year terms.

Councillors Rachel Pemberton in City Ward and Bryn Jones in North Ward were also re-elected for another four years.

In addition to the swearing in of the councillors at last night’s meeting, Cr Andrew Sullivan was elected unopposed as Deputy Mayor.

Fremantle Mayor Brad Pettitt said he had great admiration and respect for everyone who put themselves forward for public office.

“Serving on the council is a big commitment that takes a lot of time and effort, so I thank everyone who nominated for the election and congratulate all of the successful candidates,” Mayor Pettitt said.

“I look forward to hearing the fresh perspectives of the newly-elected members in council debates and working with them as we guide Fremantle towards a bright future.

“I would also like to thank our retiring councillors Ingrid Waltham, Dave Hume and Jeff McDonald, and particularly acknowledge the contribution of the departing Jon Strachan, who served on the council with distinction for 12 years.

“They have all made important and worthwhile contributions to the City and I wish them well.”

Cr Geoff Graham previously served on council in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

“I want to try and represent the community as best I can and make sure they have some faith and trust in me,” Cr Graham said.

Cr Su Groome is a registered architect and has worked in design, planning, strategy and policy.

“I have local priorities to slow traffic, improve lighting and plant more trees and city-wide priorities to plan well for city development,” Cr Groome said.

Cr Frank Mofflin has worked in the mining sector for the past 12 years and has lived in Hilton for the last 13 years.

"I want to work towards the economic and cultural growth of Fremantle while ensuring the council is meeting the needs and expectations of residents and ratepayers," Cr Mofflin said.

Cr Marija Vujcic is a human resource consultant and baba to two little boys. She loves growing plants and has been a lifelong advocate of organic gardening - an original green thumb.

“I want to achieve high standards of transparency, accountability and genuine consultation for the people of Fremantle,” Cr Vujcic said.
