Kilt Up and Get Ready to Run
City of Armadale 11 Sep 2019

There are not many music bands brave enough to run a fun run before taking the stage, but that’s exactly what Armadale based The Jarrah Celts do each year as part of the Armadale Highland Gathering and the Perth Kilt Run, which will be held on Sunday 6 October at Minnawarra Park, Armadale.

According to band member Chris Horgan, the band and friends of the band, running as the Jarrah Celts Runners, look forward to the event each year as a fantastic family event, regardless of cultural background.

“We love the kilt hire and the hilarious warmup before the race. We made up our own blue shirts to run in. We also like the two courses – one is short and easy, the other is more challenging and longer,” Chris said.

Perth Kilt Run registrations are now open, with 2.5 and 5 kilometre routes available.  It’s the fun run where donning a kilt and discovering your inner Scot is normal practice.

Prior to the race start at 9.30am, there’s the Mayor's Procession and official opening at the main stage, and a warm-up from 9.20am.

Mayor of the City of Armadale Henry Zelones OAM, JP said that the Armadale Highland Gathering and the Perth Kilt Run continues to attract crowds from Armadale and beyond, delivering a fun filled day that we all enjoy.

“From groups like The Jarrah Celts and Bedfordale Bushfire Brigade getting teams together to run the Perth Kilt Run, to schools and families getting active with their young children, and even fitness fanatics trying to improve their personal best, it’s a great way to enjoy some outdoor exercise while celebrating the Scottish culture,” Mayor Zelones said.

Part proceeds of the entry fees incurred for the Perth Kilt Run are donated to three local charities: headspace Armadale, Intensive Care Foundation and The Amanda Young Foundation. The cost to enter the Perth Kilt Run is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors, $5 for youth, and for children 12 years and under entry is free of charge.

Registrations for this year’s Perth Kilt Run are now open. Sign up for the enewsletter to be kept up to date and visit perthkiltrun.com.au for all the details.
