Are you interested in being a Shire Councillor?

Released 30 July 2019

The Shire of Broome will host an information session on Tuesday 20 August for anyone wanting to find out about becoming a Shire Councillor.

Local Government elections will be held on Saturday 19 October this year, with five positions on the Broome Shire Council to be contested.

Nominations to run for Council are open from 5-12 September 2019.

Shire of Broome Chief Executive Officer, Sam Mastrolembo, said he would provide a presentation to the information session and answer any questions from prospective candidates.

“This will be an informal occasion and a chance for anyone interested in representing their community as a Shire Councillor to have a chat, ask some questions and find out more about Local Government and the responsibilities of being a Councillor,” he said.

Mr Mastrolembo said residents and ratepayers were also encouraged to make sure they were enrolled to vote in Local Government elections, with rolls closing on 30 August 2019.

In addition to in-person voting, postal voting is available by contacting the Shire of Broome by 30 August.

The candidate information session will start at 6pm sharp on Tuesday 20 August in the Shire of Broome Function Room, and for more information visit the link below or call (08) 9191 3456.

The WA Local Government Association will also host a free webinar for prospective candidates on Thursday 15 August from 5pm to 6pm with registration at https://register.gotowebinar.com/register/1398457144312875277
