ArtGeo staff and tutors have a new passion, printmaking!

The purchase of an etching press has made way for the introduction of a new set of workshops based around the many different forms of printmaking.

The recent launch of a “taster” class to introduce the concept of drypoint proved very popular and other taster courses soon to be launched through ArtGeo include lino cuts, stencil and monoprints.

ArtGeo Exhibition Supervisor, Sharon Williams said:  “We are very fortunate to have a number of excellent printmakers in the region, one of these is Dr Pat Thomas from Dunsborough who will run our first set of classes. Dr Thomas is a highly experienced printmaker and tutor who taught printmaking and cultural theory at Edith Cowan University.”

Dr Thomas will be introducing workshop participants to the most up-to-date etching processes. These processes minimize the use of noxious cleaners creating space that is not only safe to work in, but environmentally friendly.

According to Dr Thomas “printmaking can expand your range of artistic expressions and technics”.

“With the arrival of the new etching press, we can now offer a series of workshops based on the broad horizons that printmaking’s many techniques offer,” she said.

The next two day course ‘Introduction to Collograph and Drypoint’ runs on the 9th and 16th of June or 23rd and 30th June.  The class size is limited to five to provide participants hands on time with the tutor and the press.

Bookings can be made in person at the ArtGeo Gallery or by phone, 9751 4651.
