Shire of Donnybrook Balingup President Brian Piesse and Chief Executive Officer Ben Rose welcomed the Hon Michelle Roberts BA DipEd MLA Minister for Police; Road Safety and Mick Murray, Member for Collie-Preston last week to discuss road safety and the speed limit through the town sites of Donnybrook and Balingup.

The campaign to reduce the speed limit was initiated in May last year when the community petitioned a request for the Shire of Donnybrook Balingup to appeal to Main Roads WA that the speed limit on South Western Highway be reduced from 50km/hr to 40km/hr.

Shire President Brian Piesse said “the forecast increase in traffic flow through Donnybrook from a current 8,000 vehicles a day to over 11,000 in three years’ time cannot be ignored. The reduction of the speed limit by 10km/h will encourage people into the town centres and significantly improve the safety of our road users and pedestrians without any significant delay to travel time.”

The Minister for Police; Road Safety Michelle Roberts and Mick Murray have both agreed to advocate the proposal to reduce speed limits through the town sites of Donnybrook and Balingup.
