Opera brings Jarrahdale Heritage Mill to life

More than 800 people enjoyed a spectacular evening of opera under the stars at Jarrahdale Heritage Mill on Saturday 23 March

Hosted by the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale, Opera at the Mill featured a quartet of opera singers who performed some of the biggest opera numbers in the open air of Jarrahdale forest.

The quartet of Antoinette Halloran, Rosario La Spina, Argentine-Australian baritone José Carbó and Serbian-born Milijana Nikolic performed hits including The Barber of Seville, Rossini and The Phantom of the Opera, Lloyd Webber.

Shire President Michelle Rich said it was fantastic to have opera return to the region, after The Opera Bouffe Company visited Jarrahdale in 1885 and 1886.

“The Jarrahdale Heritage Mill is symbolic of our history and Saturday night was an amazing showcase of how we can celebrate our history through events like this,” Cr Rich said.

“The feedback from guests who attended Opera at the Mill has been extremely positive and we are so pleased they enjoyed this unique experience.”

With nearly 200,000 people visiting the Shire annually to enjoy its numerous natural attractions, Cr Rich said the Shire would continue to work with stakeholders to support tourism growth within the region.

“The Shire has traditionally been home to agriculture, timber and orchards,” Cr Rich said.

“With recent population growth, the area is dramatically changing and transitioning into a major growth area with considerable opportunities to host events which attracts people from WA, interstate and overseas.

Opera at the Mill would not have been possible without the generosity of event sponsors and supporters.
