Artist Entries now open for Minnawarra Art Awards
City of Armadale 21 Feb 2019

The City of Armadale has announced that entries are now open for artists across Western Australia to submit their artwork for the approaching 2019 Minnawarra Art Awards.

This year the Minnawarra Art Awards will be professionally curated once again by Ron Nyisztor and return to the newly renovated Armadale District Hall.

Armadale Mayor Henry Zelones OAM, JP said the annual Art Awards celebrates the City's rich cultural vitality and remains a highlight of the City's arts and events calendar.

“The exhibition also provides an opportunity for the artists to potentially sell their artwork along with the chance of monetary prizes valued at $12,000 including the prestigious Gerry Gauntlett Award and the Stockland Sculpture Award.

The awards continue to attract a high quality of works, from renowned artists living in Armadale and surrounding areas, in a variety of mediums with the 2018 exhibition featuring a collection of 67 thought-provoking entries.

“Last year's exhibition showcased a diverse range of works including the winning work of Eva Fernandez, for her piece called A Rare Bird in the Lands which the judges considered to be sophisticated and technically strong, reminiscent of the Victorian era.

“Our local artist Catherine Wiley was credited for her artwork named Depression, a portrait of Art vs Depression founder Gavin Gracey, with judges commenting it was an important social matter for the wider community.

“I encourage all emerging and established artists wishing to participate in our exhibition to send in an expression of interest as soon as possible,” said Mayor Zelones.

Selected art work will be presented to members of the public during the Minnawarra Art Exhibition, daily from 11am to 4pm, between Saturday 4 and Sunday 19 May at the newly renovated Armadale District Hall.

Artists’ entries are open until noon on Monday 18 March and can be submitted online through www.armadale.wa.gov.au. Entry forms are also available upon request from the City's Administration Centre, 7 Orchard Avenue, Armadale.
