A series of community workshops are to be held across the Shire to assist locals in the identification and strategic control of woody weeds. The workshops to be run by local environmental scientist Drew McKenzie and funded through the Augusta Margaret River Shire’s Environmental Management Fund.

The workshops focus on familiarising residents with the identification and ecology of key species invading and transforming local bushland and wildlife habitat. Each workshop will involve a walk and talk through local bushland pointing out introduced and native species and will include demonstrations of control techniques as well as a discussion of strategic approaches to achieve the best results in different settings.

“The good news is that they are not difficult to control - you just need to get the identification correct as different species respond differently to control techniques.”
