The City of Swan has been recognised for planning excellence at the 2018 Parks and Leisure Australia WA Awards of Excellence, held on Thursday evening in Fremantle.

The City took out the Strategic Planning Award for our Standards of Provision for Open Space and Community Buildings.

The award recognises and rewards outstanding examples of strategic planning that have enriched and revitalised a community.

City of Swan Mayor David Lucas said the Standards will ensure that all of the City’s communities are provided with adequate and fit-for-purpose open spaces and community buildings.

“Fit-for-purpose open spaces and community buildings are an important element of a community's urban fabric and quality of life,” he said.

“They assist in defining a community’s identity and provide social, environmental and economic benefits to residents, workers and visitors.

“The City has a very important role in providing open spaces and community buildings for our community, which is rapidly growing and incredibly diverse.

“These standards will guide our future planning and development in this space.”

Mayor Lucas said it is a fantastic achievement to have our Standards recognised for planning excellence.

“We can now confidently say that our planning approach toward the delivery of open spaces and community buildings is award winning and industry leading.”

The City was also nominated for Community Facility of the Year for our Ellenbrook Sports Hub.
