With the welcome rain, comes the unwelcome mosquito population boom

Posted on November 30, 2023

The recent rain has seen a spike in mosquito numbers in our region.

‘Anything that is storing stagnant water like bird baths, certain plants like Bromeliads, buckets and toys should be dumped out and cleaned to prevent breeding grounds,’ said General Manager Communities John McDougall.

‘Not only are mosquitos annoying, but they also carry diseases, so taking measures to reduce breeding is not just precautionary, it’s necessary for our region’s health and safety,’ he continued.

There are a few ways you can limit the breeding opportunities of these pests and keep your Christmas parties to a VIP guest list only.

???? regularly empty any items that collect and hold water around the home

???? keep on top of lawn maintenance

???? ensure rainwater tanks are sealed and inlet and outlet pipes are screened

???? use repellent and surface sprays as directed, to kill adult mosquitos
