Latest grants strengthen Western Downs Community

Five Western Downs community groups are the latest to receive funding for new and exciting initiatives to boost their service to the region as part of Council’s latest grants and funding allocation.   Council offers several grants rounds every year which are designed to give valuable support to various initiatives and programs across the community, with the latest round approved by Council late last month.   Spokesperson for Community and Cultural Development Councillor Kaye Maguire said Council recently approved grants funding under its regular programs, on top of additional grants programs offered this year as a result of COVID-19.   “While many community initiatives have been impacted by COVID-19, it’s important Council continues to support the work of our fantastic community groups right across the region,” Cr Maguire said.   “This round of grants relates to applications received in the February grants round, with Council signing off on the successful recipients at its first ordinary meeting held in late April.    “These grants relate to two Council programs, Community Projects and the Regional Arts Development Fund which is funded in partnership with the State Government.   “Council has also allowed community groups which have previously received funding for events that have been postponed this year as a direct result of COVID-19, to hold their funds over until the event can occur, provided funding is used by the end of June, 2021.”  Cr Maguire said the latest round of grants included funding for five community groups.   “As part of this allocation, Empire Theatre Projects Pty Ltd has received $12,500 to deliver a Dalby Empire Youth Arts Program as part of the Regional Arts Development Fund Program,” she said.   “Council has also allocated $10,000 to the Chinchilla Polocrosse Club Inc under the Community Projects Program to undertake renovations of its toilet and shower block, as another example.   “Council is always eager to learn from the community on how we can make the Western Downs an even better place to live and work, and I encourage groups to get in touch with us to find out how we can support them.”  Other funding opportunities are available throughout the year, with some currently being assessed.   Council is also offering brand new community grants programs as part of its COVID-19 Recovery Package and groups are urged to visit Council’s website to find out more via www.wdrc.qld.gov.au   Western Downs Regional Council Media Office 07 4679 4265
